A significant number of Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and Downtown Disney cast members may soon be on strike as union negotiations continue. The Master Services Council, which represents 14,000 Disneyland employees from four unions, has announced that a strike authorization vote will be held next week.
If approved, nearly half of Disneyland’s workforce could participate in a mass walk-out, affecting around 40% of the 35,000 park employees. The results of this crucial vote are expected to be announced by July 20.
“We won’t accept less than what we deserve because we know our value to Disney,” the Disneyland unions stated. They emphasized that the theme parks’ profits stem from their hard work, making Disneyland a magical experience for guests.

Ongoing Negotiations
Disney negotiators and union officials are set to meet again on July 22. Disneyland officials have expressed their respect and value for cast members, acknowledging the important role they play in creating happiness for guests. They remain committed to continuing discussions to reach an agreement with the Master Services Council that addresses the needs of current cast members, attracts new cast, and supports Disneyland Resort’s growth and job creation.
In June, the union coalition filed unfair labor practice charges on behalf of over 500 workers disciplined for wearing union buttons featuring Mickey’s raised fist. This coalition, which includes ride operators, store clerks, custodians, candy makers, ticket takers, parking attendants, tram drivers, uniform costumers, and other cast members, has been in contract negotiations with Disney since April.
The Disneyland contract expired on June 16, while the Disney California Adventure and Downtown Disney contracts will expire on September 30. The Master Services Council chose not to enter into a contract extension after the Disneyland contract expired.
Cast Members’ Value Recognized
Disneyland officials have reiterated their commitment to their employees. “We respect and value our cast members and recognize the important role they play in creating happiness for our guests,” they stated. The officials highlighted their dedication to reaching a fair agreement with the union coalition.

As the vote approaches, the Disneyland community watches closely. The outcome could have significant implications for the park’s operations and its employees. The next union and Disney negotiation meeting is pivotal in determining the future relationship between the two parties. Both sides aim to find common ground that supports both employee welfare and the park’s continued success.
