Disneyland Temporarily Closes Four Major Attractions Amid Halloween Rush

Disneyland has announced the temporary closure of four popular attractions during the bustling Halloween season as part of its regular refurbishment schedule. This move, timed just before the holiday crowds arrive in full force, includes iconic rides and entertainment offerings that will be closed in September and October.

Attractions Affected by Seasonal Closures

Among the attractions set to close are the beloved nighttime spectacular Fantasmic, the Sailing Ship Columbia, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, and the Pixie Hollow meet-and-greet experience. These closures coincide with Disneyland’s annual schedule of upkeep and repairs, ensuring the attractions are in top condition when they reopen.

Visitors can expect these attractions to be unavailable throughout much of the Halloween season, with some reopening just in time for Christmas.

Fantasmic Shifts to Seasonal Schedule

Fantasmic, Disneyland’s renowned Rivers of America nighttime show, will go dark on weekdays from late September through early November. The closure schedule includes several stretches of weekdays, with weekend performances continuing as planned.

The affected dates for Fantasmic include September 23-26, September 30-October 3, October 7-10, October 15-17, October 21-24, and October 28-31. Although Disneyland’s calendar only extends through November 4, it is expected that weekend-only performances will carry into early November.

Sailing Ship Columbia and Other Key Closures

The Sailing Ship Columbia, which plays a dual role as a pirate ship in Fantasmic, will also undergo a seasonal refurbishment. The ship will be out of commission on select dates that coincide with the Fantasmic schedule: September 23-26, September 30-October 3, and October 7-10.

Pixie Hollow, a beloved attraction where guests can interact with Tinker Bell, will be closed through at least early November. Meanwhile, Dumbo the Flying Elephant will briefly close for a one-day refurbishment on October 1.

Broader Refurbishments Across the Park

These seasonal closures are part of a larger park-wide effort to refurbish several attractions. Splash Mountain, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Jungle Cruise, It’s a Small World, Disneyland Railroad, and World of Color are already undergoing maintenance.

Of particular note is the ongoing transformation of Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which is set to open on November 15. Cast member previews of the new attraction will run from October 22 through November 12, generating excitement for the upcoming debut.

In addition, It’s a Small World will remain closed through mid-November as it undergoes its annual holiday makeover, while World of Color at Disney California Adventure remains dark through early November for seasonal repairs.

More to Come as Disneyland Prepares for Holiday Season

As Disneyland gears up for the busy holiday season, additional closures and refurbishments are likely. The park is also preparing for the return of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, scheduled to reopen in 2025 as part of the park’s 70th-anniversary celebrations.

The temporary closures are part of Disneyland’s ongoing commitment to maintaining its attractions and ensuring a magical experience for guests, even during its busiest seasons.
