At the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, Disney Branded Television (DBT) unveiled a thrilling array of new animated projects, primarily targeting preschoolers and young viewers. The announcement featured first glimpses of the highly anticipated “Disney Jr.’s Ariel” and “Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur: Moon Girl’s Lab.” Additionally, there were updates on new seasons of beloved series “Big City Greens” and “Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures.”
This year marks a significant milestone for Disney, celebrating its 40-year anniversary. Ayo Davis, President of DBT, expressed pride in the studio’s enduring legacy.
“Disney Branded Television is proud of our four-decade legacy of creating magical and visually stunning animation beloved by young audiences around the world,” Davis said. “It’s a momentous year at Annecy, as we celebrate our studio’s milestone anniversary and showcase some of our most exciting new projects and creative talent that are ushering us into a new era of storytelling.”
New Series Announcements
Among the new series, “Prep & Landing: The Snowball Protocol” is a 22-minute special bringing back the high-tech team of elves in another holiday adventure. When missions go awry, Wayne faces big trouble with Santa, leading to a series of merry mishaps. This special will debut next year.
“Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur: Moon Girl’s Lab” features shorts where Moon Girl, alongside Devil Dinosaur, takes on the thieving Bone Raider at a museum. The series, premiering June 28 on Disney Channel and Disney+, includes eight shorts with original songs by GRAMMY Award-winner Raphael Saadiq.
“SuperKitties: Sup-Purr Adventures” inspired by the top-rated preschool series “SuperKitties,” showcases Bitsy, Sparks, and Buddy demonstrating their superhero skills and kindness. Premiering August 7 on Disney Jr. and Disney Channel, with availability on Disney+ and YouTube the next day, this series promises to be a hit.
Series Renewals and Premiere Dates
Fans of “Big City Greens” can rejoice as Cricket Green and his family return for a fifth season. This series follows the misadventures of the country boy Cricket Green in the big city. Additionally, a new movie, “Big City Greens the Movie: Spacecation,” is available for streaming on Disney+.
The second season of “Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures” has a premiere date set for August 14 on Disney+ and Disney Jr. Audiences can join Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay, and Nubs for more intergalactic adventures.
First Looks and Exciting New Shows
“Disney Jr.’s Ariel” brings back the beloved princess in a new series, debuting June 27 on Disney Jr., with episodes available on Disney+ the following day. The show follows the young Ariel on underwater adventures with her friends.
“Kindergarten: The Musical” introduces five-year-old Berti and her friends navigating their first school experiences. With Broadway-style song and dance numbers, the series will premiere later this year on Disney Jr. and Disney+.
“StuGo” is a new Disney Channel series following six middle schoolers who end up in a fake academic camp run by a mad scientist. Premiering this fall on Disney Channel and Disney+, the show promises a blend of academia and wild adventure.
Lastly, “The Doomies” is a spooky comedy series about best friends Bobby and Romy who accidentally open a gateway to the underworld. Their coastal town becomes overrun with terrifying creatures, leading to an epic monster mystery.
