Disney has made its first major moves in preparation for Hurricane Helene, announcing several closures at Walt Disney World Resort. Among the affected attractions is the beloved Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, originally planned for September 26, 2024. Guests with tickets to the event will receive refunds.
In addition to this cancellation, Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and all Walt Disney World miniature golf courses will be closed for the entire day. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, certain “Enchanting Extras Collection” experiences have been called off, including Savor the Savanna, Up Close with Rhinos, Walking with Giants, and the Wild Africa Trek. However, to accommodate park visitors, Magic Kingdom will extend its operating hours until 8 PM on September 26.
Disney Prioritizes Safety Amid Storm Concerns
With Hurricane Helene strengthening and heading toward Florida, Disney is taking no chances. On September 26, Typhoon Lagoon and the mini-golf courses across the resort will not operate as a safety precaution. These closures come in response to the anticipated high winds and heavy rains expected to hit the Central Florida region.

The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Central Florida, which includes Orange and Osceola counties, where Walt Disney World is located. Helene is expected to bring winds of up to 60 mph, along with substantial rainfall, creating dangerous conditions for outdoor activities.
Possible Additional Closures at Disney World
While Typhoon Lagoon is the only confirmed closure thus far, Disney is closely monitoring the storm’s progress. There is the possibility of further closures or operational changes at other parks, such as Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom.
Visitors to Walt Disney World are encouraged to stay informed via the My Disney Experience app, which will provide real-time updates regarding the storm and any park changes.
Disney has reiterated that the safety of both guests and Cast Members is its top priority. In a statement, the company said, “We are continuing to monitor the path of Tropical Storm Helene and will make operational decisions accordingly. The safety of our Guests and Cast Members is our top priority.”
Impact of Hurricane Helene on Central Florida
Hurricane Helene is forecast to bring significant disruption to Central Florida, with wind gusts, torrential rain, and localized flooding posing major concerns. As early as Wednesday evening, the outer rain bands of the storm are expected to reach the region, with the storm’s closest approach anticipated for Thursday.
Due to these potential hazards, Disney’s decision to close attractions and adapt park operations is a precautionary step to ensure the well-being of everyone at the resort. Further updates on closures are expected as the storm continues to move closer to Florida.
For visitors and residents in the area, safety guidelines from local authorities should be followed, as conditions may rapidly deteriorate in the coming hours.
