A newly hired corrections officer, Damon Rembert, 29, from Jacksonville, has lost his job after a shocking incident at Walt Disney World. Rembert was arrested for domestic violence and culpable negligence after allegedly shoving a stroller with his two-year-old daughter inside towards his wife at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC).
Arrest at the Magic Kingdom Monorail
The event took place in late May, where tensions flared as Rembert and his wife navigated the crowded and hot environment of the Magic Kingdom. The situation escalated when Rembert, in an attempt to push the stroller closer to his wife, accidentally bumped it into her ankle. His wife, who had walked ahead, managed to catch the stroller before it tipped over, preventing any harm to their daughter or herself. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s arrest report, no one was injured in the incident.

Despite the minor nature of the event, deputies at the scene arrested Rembert, an action that his wife claims exacerbated his autism. The arrest led to Rembert being forced to resign from his new position at Columbia Correctional Institution, a state prison in Lake City. The Florida Department of Corrections confirmed that Rembert is no longer employed with them but did not provide further details about his employment history.
Charges Dropped, But Consequences Linger
In July, all charges against Rembert were dismissed, with both Rembert and his wife describing the situation as a giant misunderstanding. “They blew everything out of proportion and made a big deal out of something that wasn’t a big deal,” Rembert’s wife stated. “There are actual battery domestic violence cases — we’re not one. If we were, I would report it.”
However, the consequences of the incident continue to impact the family. Both Rembert and his wife are now banned from Walt Disney World. Additionally, the loss of his corrections officer job has placed a significant financial strain on the family, leaving Rembert searching for new employment.
“My two-year-old was traumatized seeing her dad taken away in handcuffs,” Rembert’s wife shared. “That corrections job was really important to our family. It was going to provide a lot of stability and income. Now, we’re dealing with financial distress.”
A Troubling Trend at Disney Parks
This incident is just one of several troubling events at Walt Disney World in recent months. In July, a man was arrested for leaving his dog in a 120-degree car at Disney Springs. In June, another arrest occurred when a drunk woman tried to take her child to the Magic Kingdom. That same month, EPCOT Cast Members were attacked by two violent guests at the Space 220 Restaurant.
While the charges against Rembert were dropped, the ripple effects of this incident will likely continue to affect his family. As Rembert seeks new employment, his wife reflects on the ordeal, emphasizing that a misunderstanding has led to their current challenges.
